Just when you think you’ve seen the last, someone else pumps out a new MP3 player that attempts to beat its previous version. It’s probable that few if any companies will surpass the MP3 needs that iPod has set, but Dell is certainly trying. And given the not so pretty success of Dell’s last MP3 player, it’s good that they are. Is this just another MP3 player? Uh no, the feature that this has that may make it surpass the competition is it’s Wi Fi technology. This MP3 player is called the Dell D.J. and incorporates Internet radio alongside its tune playing capabilities.Few MP3 players offer this feature, so this one may stand out a little bit yet. Users can enjoy their favorite radio stations from anywhere in the world and the LCD screen offers an easy to use interface to do just that. This one’s not out yet, and there is talk that the LCD screen may even be a touch screen, giving this gadget yet another advantage over its competition. And, even better? This one will come in under $100 bucks, so that’s one additional factor that makes it more appealing than its illustrious iPod competitor.Read d rest...
The Serenata features a pebble like design so much so that if it weren't for its shiny metal it would easily camouflage itself. Most people for sure will hold it the wrong way the first time. Even though I knew it, it took me a while before I could get the phone out of my pocket and hold it right. What makes it so difficult is the positioning of the screen. The screen is down and a click wheel placed above. It's a very bold design step for which many will criticize the phone. More on that later in the review.
The face of the phone first sees an all-metal large click wheel with a button in the center and four buttons on the click wheel. The left and right clicks are the calling keys while the top is a Clear/Delete button and down is the back button. The screen below has touch buttons, one in each corner and depending on application; even the center is a touch button. While the top left corner is dedicated to Music the top right corner brings up extra options depending on which menu you are in.The phone doesn't have any buttons placed on the sides, just one connector at the bottom of the phone to charge, connect headphones or dock it. The connector has a sliding dust cover to prevent particles from entering into the circuitry of the phone.
This is good considering that this phone is going to be kept standing while being used as an audio player most of the time. There is no camera in the back or front, just a stainless steel piece featuring a brushed metal finish to keep the phone standing when its loudspeaker is pulled out.
Yea, just like in the Samsung i450 mobile phone or the Samsung YP-K2 MP3 player, which have a speaker that slides out. The Serenata has a large loudspeaker. With this design you can have the phone sitting on a table by itself or on a dock and playing the tunes loaded into its internal memory. To insert the SIM card or change the battery you have to open the flip stand and slide up the speaker before you're able to open the battery compartment.
The phone has a very good build quality. High quality rubberized plastics are used for the edges and the back of the phone, except for the flip stand. The face of the phone also features a lot of the same metal seen for the stand.

Ipod may face challenge from Dell......

If Apple has a giant target on its back, it's Dell that keeps taking aim. Earlier this week Dell launched its Studio Hybrid desktop, a hip looking miniature sized PC that will do battle with Apple's Mac Mini, and now the company wants to wage a war in the portable music player market too.According to the Wall Street Journal, several Dell officials have indicated the OEM has been testing a digital music player for the past several months and that it could see the light of day by September, the same time millions of kids will be seen lugging their iPods back to school as dozens of those less fortunate look on in envy with their Zunes. But it's not exactly unchartered territory for Dell, who half a decade ago launched its Dell DJ line, a now defunct music player that never even had a chance to take on the iPod. Now Dell will get that chance.Dell's new music player will purportedly feature a small navigation screen with basic button scrolls, and will sport a WiFi connection for linking up with online music services. Most surprisingly, the new player is said to be priced at less than $100.
Does Dell have a shot at slicing into Apple's market share with a budget MP3 player, or will it ultimately join the DJ in the gadget graveyard?

Always obsessed with finding the right tool for the job, I've long run not one, but two MP3 players. The first—currently an 80GB iPod—is responsible for storing my vast MP3 archive of almost 450 albums ripped with the most anal quality settings possible. Being able to carry around this extensive library of tunes is fantastically convenient, making the iPod perfect for toting around town and even better for traveling. I'll even take the iPod skiing, which isn't terribly jarring, and it does just fine at the gym as long as I'm lifting weights and not otherwise bouncing the fragile hard drive around. But if I'm running or navigating one of my bikes down technical singletrack littered with roots, rocks, and other bits of bone-jarring nature, I tend to shy away from anything with a spinning hard drive. This is where my secondary MP3 player comes in. Here, I'm looking for something small, lightweight, relatively inexpensive, and with flash storage that won't mind being rattled around. Capacity doesn't matter much, since if I'm riding my bike or out running, I only need the loud, energetic, thrashy subset of my MP3 archive that makes me go faster. For the last while, a Creative Zen Nano has filled in as my flash-based MP3 player, and it's largely been good. However, a couple of years of mud, dust, rain, and sweat finally took its toll on the Nano, leaving me searching for a new flash-based player to abuse during my workouts. Since I've been reasonably happy with my iPod, I thought it would be only fair to consider the latest shuffle. That is until I saw the price. $79 for a 1GB player that doesn't have a screen? Surely you jest.
It didn't take me long to find something better in the form of SanDisk's Sansa Clip. Like the shuffle, it's tiny and has an integrated clip. More importantly, it costs $20 less, yet packs twice the capacity and a gorgeous OLED display. And I'm just getting started.
