Serenata Mobile from Samsung

The Serenata features a pebble like design so much so that if it weren't for its shiny metal it would easily camouflage itself. Most people for sure will hold it the wrong way the first time. Even though I knew it, it took me a while before I could get the phone out of my pocket and hold it right.
What makes it so difficult is the positioning of the screen. The screen is down and a click wheel placed above. It's a very bold design step for which many will criticize the phone. More on that later in the review.

The face of the phone first sees an all-metal large click wheel with a button in the center and four buttons on the click wheel. The left and right clicks are the calling keys while the top is a Clear/Delete button and down is the back button. The screen below has touch buttons, one in each corner and depending on application; even the center is a touch button. While the top left corner is dedicated to Music the top right corner brings up extra options depending on which menu you are in.The phone doesn't have any buttons placed on the sides, just one connector at the bottom of the phone to charge, connect headphones or dock it. The connector has a sliding dust cover to prevent particles from entering into the circuitry of the phone.

This is good considering that this phone is going to be kept standing while being used as an audio player most of the time. There is no camera in the back or front, just a stainless steel piece featuring a brushed metal finish to keep the phone standing when its loudspeaker is pulled out.

Yea, just like in the Samsung i450 mobile phone or the Samsung YP-K2 MP3 player, which have a speaker that slides out. The Serenata has a large loudspeaker. With this design you can have the phone sitting on a table by itself or on a dock and playing the tunes loaded into its internal memory. To insert the SIM card or change the battery you have to open the flip stand and slide up the speaker before you're able to open the battery compartment.

The phone has a very good build quality. High quality rubberized plastics are used for the edges and the back of the phone, except for the flip stand. The face of the phone also features a lot of the same metal seen for the stand.
