VIA, a one-time major player in the enthusiast motherboard chipset market and a current producer of low power processors (VIA Nano), has largely been overshadowed by bigger players in nearly every sector it competes in. So while VIA might be having trouble finding some love in the PC market, the company hopes it can fare better in less traditional areas with its new VIPRO VP7710 fanless touch-screen panel PC."Amid growing public acceptance of intuitive touch screen technologies, the VIA VIPRO addresses an increasing demand for cost effective, intelligent displays in commercial applications such as ticketing, ATM, vending and information kiosks as well as sophisticated fleet deployment infrastructures in transport, delivery and logistics enterprise," VIA states in a press release.VIA opted for heavy steel and aluminum to construct the VIPRO's chassis, which serves to protect the 10.4-inch TFT display from shock, vibration, and other potential calamities. The touch screen also resists both water and dust, making it ideally suited for outside use.
From a hardware standpoint, the VIPRO comes with either a 1.6GHz VIA Eden or 1.0GHz C7 processor, up to 1GB of DDR2 memory, support for both IDE and SATA 2.5-inch hard drives, and integrated VIA UniChrome Pro II graphics. Additionally, a second display can be added via a VGA port.

Samsung today launched its touchscreen mobile phone in the Indian market. Called the F480 a.k.a TouchWiz, the phone sports full touch navigation features.
The phone houses a 5-megapixel autofocus camera with LED Flash. It features the "auto smile shot" as seen in some newer Samsung digicams. Samsung TouchWiz also comes equipped with face detection, image stabilizer, CMOS video lens, and Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) - features usually found in the more advanced digital cameras. The 'drag and drop' technology allows widgets to be selected from the left panel of the screen and dropped anywhere on the home screen. Since the widgets include widely used applications like clock, calendar, alarms, Music Player, FM, Games and Profiles, this practically allows the user to set hotkeys on the touch menu for all these functions.
For connectivity, the Samsung TouchWiz features GPRS, EDGE, 3G, HSDPA (7.2mbps) networks and functions on GSM 900/1800/1900, and WCDMA 2100 bands. The phone is equipped with 240MB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 8GB via the microSD memory card slot.
Samsung's TouchWiz is housed a metal body casing and luxurious leather cover. For its stylish looks and features, this phone will cost you Rs 20,990.

LG has unveiled a new handset that's going to be the upgrade to their recently launched KF750 Secret slider handset. They’re calling it the KF755. The new slider handset comes equipped with a 2.4-inch TFT touch screen display with QVGA 320 x 240 pixel resolution. It also has a touch sensitive navigation panel. The KF755 will not feature HSDPA speeds but will of course support GPRS and EDGE. This seems to be the only difference between the two handsets. The other features incorporated into the KF755 include a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera, USB 2.0 connectivity and Bluetooth 2.0 so A2DP would bepart of the package. It also has a media player and reads AAC+, WMA, and MP3 audio files, and MPEG-4 file formats. It will also feature a TV out, FM radio, accelerometer for auto screen rotation and microSD card support. There’s no price tag attached to the KF755 yet so stay tuned.Read d rest...
Long back, we'd reported about a touch-screen BlackBerry phone in the making. Now, right after the official announcement of the 3G-enabled BlackBerry Bold, there is some more info about the former. According to the Boy Genius Report, BlackBerry's first touch-screen phone has been codenamed as the BlackBerry 'Thunder'. Invariably there will be those that will argue that, in ‘merely’ being a concept, this touchscreen universal remote conceived of by David Chacon has the luxury of being as desirable as it pleases in being wholly fictitious and constrained only by the designer’s scope of imagination, but to do so would negate the fact that it’s the concepts of today lead to the products of tomorrow and so are as valid a focus of our attention as any product that has successfully made the truncated path through from concept to commercially available product.Known simply as the Universal Remote, David Chacon’s touchscreen concept is envisaged as being a flash based device capable of displaying (and therefore controlling) just about anything that’s can be controlled wirelessly, from switching TV channels, filtering through your MP3 playlists to closing your front room’s curtains and putting the your children to bed after reading them a storyAgreed, the concept is big on looks and somewhat lacking in specifics but if, like us, the very idea of home automation makes you go weak at the knees (and it most certainly does it for us) then we can think of nothing better than a device such as David Chacon’s Touchscreen Universal Remote to serve as the hand held master of ceremonies.

A young designer from Prague, the capital of Czech Republic, recently came up with a fresh and good looking mobile phone concept, called the Egg Phone. Far from being bulky like an egg,the new handset has an oval-shaped, curved case that seems to be quite slim and, more important, it can probably fit well in users' hands.
Roman Tubl, the creator of the Egg handset, imagined the device having "illuminated" margins and a wide touchscreen display with tactile feedback, which represents the only way users can control the device's functions. Therefore, it seems we have here the very first full-touchscreen phone that clearly differentiates itself from Apple's iPhone and its design. Which is, obviously, a good thing.Besides the touchscreen, said to be easy to use, the Egg phone should also have a pretty cool range of features, including: a 3.2 Megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a USB port for both charging and data transfers,

and an internal memory of "up to 4GB". If some 3G speeds and other goodies can also be squeezed in the Egg, then the handset is, at least theoretically, a very attractive one.
For the moment, the Egg Phone is only a render, so there is no real device with this name or aspect. Anyway, unlike other concepts that have little chances to become reality, the Egg doesn't seem to be too hard to be transformed into a real phone. If we think about the resources the important handset manufacturers currently have, this phone shouldn't be a hard challenge for them.
Now, there's only the "tiny" problem of who would actually want to have a phone like this in the line-up. Could we possibly see, sometime in the future, a Nokia Egg? Or a Sony Ericsson Egg? Only time will tell. However, regardless of who creates the "mobile egg", we really hope someone will do it. With such a look and features, the handset has all the chances to become a hit, especially among the users who look for a unique mobile phone.

The second Nokia patent Unwired View's dug up this week apes the Nintendo DS more than the Sidekick. It's got two screens, one touch, the other for visuals only. It also has the quickly becoming standard intelligent layout, which changes depending on the angle the phone's opened at.
When it's flapped completely open, the split view coalesces into a single one spread across both screens. Even if the concept isn't wholly inventive by this point, the second screen could set it apart from the million over phones now jumping on the touchscreen bandwagon
