The next development milestone of Firefox 4.0 will be shipped in early 2011, with Beta 8 currently available for testing.The fact that Mozilla will only be able to deliver Beta 9 no earlier than January 2011 is a true measure of the delays that hit the project.Fact is that Firefox 4.0 has been pushed so far into 2011, that Microsoft might get to release Internet Explorer 9 ahead of Firefox 3.6’s successor.
Remember, Mozilla still has to deliver Firefox 4.0 Beta 9 and Beta 10 ahead of pushing onward with the first Release Candidate (RC) Build.
The latest blocker count for Firefox 4.0 Beta 9 reveals that there are some 49 major problems that need to be resolved, this not counting any regression issues.
In total, Mozilla estimates that there are still over 450 bugs that need to be resolved before Firefox 4.0 can be finalized and delivered to the public.

Firefox 3.1 Beta 1-much faster than ever

Mozilla has released Firefox 3.1 Beta 1 for the Firefox fans and has taken yet another step towards the final release. You can download the beta from here.
Here are our impressions of the Beta on a Windows machine. First impression is that it is really fast! Our very own Tech Skill page loaded in less than 2 seconds which takes more than 4 on any other browser (results may differ on various Internet connections). This is due thanks to the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine that uses tracing optimization for snazzy performance delivery. TraceMonkey makes this release faster than Google Chrome's V8 as claimed earlier. Note however that the engine is not turned on by default and needs a bit of elbow grease to get it going. Needless to say though, Mozilla developers are planning to further optimize the engine.
To activate the TraceMonkey JavaScript engine, type "about:config" into the address bar. Then type "javascript.options.jit.content" into the filter. Toggle the boolean setting from "false" to "true". Close the window and restart the browser.We found an almost 50 percent boost in the browser speed, after making that tweak.
Mozilla has also implemented W3C Geolocation Specification as mentioned on Geode release. We couldn't make Geode 1.5 work but Ubiquity 0.1.1 worked smoothly for us.
The most interesting feature included is a 3D-like tab switching interface that shows a preview of a tab's content. Press CTRL+Tab to trigger this tab switching interface. Keep them pressed to see how fast the browser rotates the tabs. Hey, it's fun...

struggle of the Browser

Fenrir, a Japanse software company, apparently never got the memo and thinks it has a chance at snagging 5 percent of the browser market within the next few years. And while most of us would automatically shrug at such an impossibly ambitious notion, it would be a mistake to dismiss the company's claim without a second glance.Most Americans have probably never heard of the Sleipnir browser, but in Japan, 6 percent of surfers are cruising the web with it (Fenrir says it's more like 9 percent). Like Firefox, Sleipir has built a reputation for itself based on its high level of customization, including the ability to switch back and forth between the Trident and Gecko layout engines (used by Internet Explorer and Firefox, respectively) with the click of a button.Development of the Sleipnir browser began back in 2005 and there has always been an English version to correspond with the main Japanese version, but a recent spike in international demand has sparked the company to target Firefox and IE user more aggressively. In what would be no small task, the company says it wants to grow from its estimated 100,000 users all the way up to 17 million with a big focus on the English-speaking market.
Does Fenrir have a fighting chance? Give the download a try and see for yourself.

Hole in Firefox 3 !

at the end of one entire day. The Mozilla Web site continued under pressure, 9,000 free copies per minute and rearing to go -- to break that all new Guinness World Record for the largest number of software downloads in 24 hours.Some place else though, Tipping Point's Zero Day Initiative announced finding the very first vulnerability -- also within five hours of the browser's release. The traditionbeing not to disclose specifics of a vulnerability until the vendor has had a chance to patch the same, yet, Tipping Point verified the vulnerability and rated it as 'critical'. A blog post said the vulnerability that also affects Firefox 2, could allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code if explored.
Tipping Point promptly reported the vulnerability to the Mozilla team, and the latter is said to be working on a fix for the same.
Vulnerability or no vulnerability, Firefox 3 has managed to break a new record, registering 8.3 million downloads in the very first day. Perhaps it's time for one more cake, is the Microsoft IE team listening?

Give a huge acceleration to your firefox and internet browser

Filed Under: broadband, firefox, internet browser, registry, tips
According to the HTTP specs, only a limited number of simultaneous connections to web servers are allowed, while loading web pages. With today's broadband connections, it is beneficial to increase the number of concurrent connections to reduce page loading time. To increase the number of concurrent connections, add the following entries to the Windows Registry (the settings are not present by default) :
Navigate to Start > Run, type: regedit , find the following locations and add the DWORD values:
HKEY_USERS.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000010
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000010
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
"MaxConnectionsPerServer"=dword:00000010
"MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server"=dword:00000010
Note: Keep in mind that setting those values exceed the HTTP RFC specs. Increasing the number of concurrent connections over 10 may cause problems with some websites not completely loading, or dropping/retransmitting some requests. If you experience problems, just reduce the numbers to a lower value, or remove the settings above to return to the Windows defaults (4 and 2 concurrent connections).
Alternatively, to apply the above tweak, you can download a web patch (sguide_webtweak_2k) from Download .
While these entries improve web page loading considerably, there is some concern that they tend to strain webservers more (they increase bursts of concurrent requests), but have no effect on average throughput.
Mozilla Firefox:
Pipelining requests:
This setting is equivalent to the IE tweak above. It allows for more simultaneous connections to web servers. Note that the HTTP specs suggest for 4 concurrent connections. Setting this value to 10 allows for more web page components being downloaded at the same time, noticeably improving browsing. To appy the tweak, follow the simple instructions below:
1. In the address bar, type: about:config
2. Locate and change the following values (by double-clicking on them):
network.http.max-connections = 24 (default is 24)
network.http.max-connections-per-server = 10 (default is 8)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy = 8 (default is 4)
network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server = 4 (default is 2)
network.http.pipelining = true (default is false)
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 10 ( default is 4)
network.http.proxy.pipelining = true (default is false)
3. Optionally, you can also tweak the following settings:
content.notify.backoffcount = 5
ui.submenuDelay = 0
Note: Setting the number of connections per server to a much higher number (over ~10) can cause web servers to drop some requests, resulting in incomplete pages, increased retransmissions, etc., so it is not recommended.
Reduce Initial Page Delay:
By default, Firefox waits 0.25 seconds (250ms) before beginning to draw web pages. To reduce this initial delay, do the following:
1. In the browser address bar, type: about:config
2. Anywhere in the browser window, right-click and create: NEW > String
3. Name the string: nglayout.initialpaint.delay (no spaces) and set its value to 0 (or something sensible, in milliseconds).

It’s been so long since I've written about everyone’s favorite Web browser of Firefox! This time, instead of talking about how you can install such and such application to customize such and such feature to increase functionality by 200 percent, etc., etc., I thought I’d just write about five quick tips you can use in Firefox. Here we go!
1.) Keyboard Navigation
Do you get sick of moving your arm to get ahold of the mouse just so you can click on a different tab in Firefox? Well, I sure do! Luckily, the same thing can be done using keyboard shortcuts. By using Ctrl + Tab, you can move through all of the open tabs from left to right. If you want to go directly to a tab, all you have to do is press Ctrl + the number of the tab you want from the left. For example, hit Ctrl + 2 for the second tab from the left. Cool, huh?!
2.) Delete a URL
Ever find yourself at a loss when you want to delete the address of a particular Web site from your history? Well, you know you can open the history sidebar and delete everything, but what if you also want to delete it from the drop down menu on the address bar? Well, all you have to do to delete an address from the address bar menu is highlight it and press Delete. Poof! The evidence is destroyed! 3.) Download Page Media.
Let's say you visit a Web page and you want to download a certain embedded component, such as a Shockwave file, an image or an animation. What do you do? Well, let’s also say that the page is protected and it doesn’t even let you right click anywhere. How would you be able to download anything from that page then? For this, just go to Tools, Page Info. That should open up a new dialogue box. In that box, click on the tab that says Media.

4.) Get More Screen Space
To free up more space on your screen, you can make your icons smaller. To do that, just go to View, Toolbars, Customize. You will then see a little checkbox that says Use Small Icons. Checkmark that and bada bing, you’re done!
5.) Instant Search
To search for any text on a particular Web page, you probably usually use Ctrl + F, right? Well, now you can do that even faster by pressing the "forward slash" key (it's the same one as the question mark key) on your keyboard. That will highlight the Quickfind window. So, to recap, you press the forward slash key, which activates the window, and you type in the text you want to search for. It's so quick and easy!

Safari 3.0.4 Released
By Koushik Saha on 29.12.07
Filed Under: Apple, firefox, internet browser, Maxthon, safari
Apple's very own browser, Safari's beta refresh is released with version 3.0.4. Version 3.0.3 was given with Digit DVD this month. The last version had very high memory usage, and perhaps on my system only, crashed every here and there. Although i didn't liked it much but its response time is very good. On my Vista system, it open websites atleast 2.5x faster then IE and Maxthon and atleast 1.5x times Firefox. I dont use Opera for some personal dislikes.
But i am very much pleased with this latest release. Crashes are reduced very much and it is running quiet stably for last 2 days with about 2.5 hours of browsing 2 times a day without closing it, ie. i hibernated my system. Speed is as good as previous one. Memory usage has been reduced considerably. Its using between 52 to 68 MB normally, although sometimes it still goes as high as 138MB!!! but this comes to normal after sometime. I guess this department needs some more thought by Apple engineers.
Although untill now, i preferred Maxthon very much coz of its small install base (as IE is already installed ) and ggod features including skin support. But this one looks more asthetically pleasing to me and i have started to love it. Its hinting technology for ClearType kind of text is quiet easy on eyes.
This is for the first time i am having these kind of feelings for an Apple product Just kidding, Apple's a great company making products with a difference, although i am also very pleased with my Vista Ultimate SP1 RC.Personal choice, i guess.
