3-D video displays in the past have involved looking at a small box or wearing clunky glasses. In sharp contrast, the ICT Graphics Lab at USC has created a low-cost volumetric 3-D display that you can just sit back and watch. Using Digital Light Projection technology, spinning mirrors and very precise math that figures out the correct axial perspective needed for a 3-D image, ICT Graphics Lab has delivered a realistic image that automatically adjusts to the viewer. The image updates in real time (at 200 Hz) producing an image that will "stay in place" so each person in the room has a correct POV.
Watching movies in true 3-D doesn't seem too far-fetched anymore.
