Lets Go Low

Target PC within Rs. 15000/- + TAX

Buy a PC which makes sense in a budget as low as possible... This would be a PC for basic Office job, running basic office apps for accounting printing and stuff like that !!!! Will be running Windows XP with ease !!!

AMD X2 3600+ with MSI K9AGM2 (AMD 690V) @ Rs. 5000/- + TAX
1 GB DDR-II 667 MHz @ Rs. 1200/- + TAX
80 GB SATA @ Rs. 1600/- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300/- + TAX
Cabby + Default SMPS ( 400 /450 watts) @ Rs. 1200/- + TAX
15" CRT LG / SAMSUNG@ Rs. 3700/- + TAX
Local Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 500/- + TAX
UPS Local Brand 1400/- + TAX

TAX Rs. 636/- (4% VAT) Kolkata
Total Rs. 16536/-

Target was Rs. 15k but cant go lower with todays Apps... it will be able to Run Vista with ease ... if you are thinking for more use, then doo think of adding a GB RAM and may be a bigger HDD like 160 GB and off course a Rs. 1000/- 2.1 Creative skps system

Budget Gaming

Target Rs. 25000/-

This is a PC with Budget Gaming with onboard grfx, will run most of the games games in mid settings... once again one budget comes in mind its AMD which pops up... These are good configs for little home Video Editing, PhotoShop, Flash like stuff, will run under Vista quite cool...

AMD X2 4000+ @ Rs. 3000 /- + TAX
ASUS M2NPV VM (Nvidia 6150 chipset) @ Rs. 3800 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 667 MHz @ Rs. 2400 /- + TAX
160 GB SATA @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
Cabby + ColorSit / Power Safe / Zebronics SMPS ( 450 /500 watts) @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX
17" CRT LG / SAMSUNG @ Rs. 4300 /- + TAX
Local Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 500 /- + TAX
UPS Local Brand @ Rs. 1400 /- + TAX
5.1 Creaitve Inspre @ Rs. 3600 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 972 /-
Total Rs. 25272 /-

Once again I failed to stay under that budget of Rs. 25k !!! as seemed this is what basic would be called !!! you may consider a Rs. 1000/- based 2.1 skp and change the procy to X2 4800 is poosible which is Rs. 4600/- + TAX...

Intel Counter Part

for those who likes the intel brand name and would do little OverClocking !!!

Intel Dual Core E2140 @ Rs. 2450 /- + TAX
ASUS P5B-VM / P5K-VM @ Rs. 7200 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 667 MHz @ Rs. 2400 /- + TAX
160 GB SATA @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
Cabby + ColorSit / Power Safe / Zebronics SMPS ( 450 /500 watts) @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX
17" CRT LG / SAMSUNG @ Rs. 4300 /- + TAX
Local Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 500 /- + TAX
UPS Local Brand @ Rs. 1400 /- + TAX
2.1 Creaitve Inspre @ Rs. 1000 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 982 /-
Total Rs. 25532 /-

If u notice the system is all most same just getting E2140 + P5B-VM / P5K-VM... Performance is more or less the same at Stock, but the New Core based Dual Core E2140/E2160 processors are highly overclockable...

To Fit the Intel Config u may have to consider 2.1 instead of 5.1...

Both onboard grfx are good enough to run most of the games in low settings, now I would say AMD 690G (ATi x1250) is better than X3000 GMA of Intel !!! though both will get around 3.0/3.1 (X3000) and 3.4 (ATi x1250 / Nvidia 6150) on Vista Performance Rating (Gaming grfx)...

P5B-VM is with G965 (x3000) Chipset / P5K-VM is with latest G33 (GMA x3100) chipset... the P5K-VM will replace the P5B-VM boarsds, so get which ever is cheaper and available at your place

Now as i said these are basic configs... So if one has some more money, can add up or modify the basic configs... Like 17" TFT @ Rs. 6900/- + TAX, for some more performance under vista and great gaming one can add XFX 8600 GT 256 MB Rs. 5500/- + TAX some gamin hardware like Joystick... which can be seen reflecting at the bellow Midrange configs...

Mid-Range Performer

Budget 35-40k

well as it sounds with better budget PC... Now Intel Can be think of, Good for some video editing, Pro PhotoShop job, or Flash / Multimedia apps... With intel some OverClocking for Performance boost

Intel E6550 @ Rs. 7000 /- + TAX
XFX 650i ultra @ Rs. 4600 /- + TAX
XFX 8600 GT GDDR3 256MB @ Rs. 5500 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 800 MHz Transend or Kingstone or ZION @ Rs. 2650 /- + TAX
250 GB SATA-II 16MB Buffer (Segate / SAMSUNG / WD) @ Rs. 2600 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
A Large and wel ventilated Cabby + ColorSit / Power Safe / Zebronics SMPS ( 500 watts or more) @ Rs. 2200 /- + TAX
17" CRT LG / SAMSUNG @ Rs. 4300 /- + TAX
Local Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 500 /- + TAX
UPS Local Brand @ Rs. 1400 /- + TAX
5.1 Creaitve Inspre @ Rs. 3600 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 1426 /-
Total Rs. 37076 /-

Optionals are

View Sonic 17" TFT 7900/- + TAX
View Sonic 19" vg1930wm Rs. 9500/- + TAX
New 8800 GT 512 MB 14000/- + TAX

Here one may consider for OC, u would b need of Better PSU like Cooler Master 600 watts eXtreme which is Rs. 3500/- !!! One can allways spend some more to get Corsiar RAMs ...

Price no Bar need some extreme Hardware

Refer to the section bellow "Performance Upgrad" with good budget !!!!

I Need the Beast

If u have insane budget for insane PC, consider Alienware or MAC Pro

Now just for the Dubba (CPU)

This is for those who is seeking upgrade who doesnt in need of Display / UPS / Spk system or Keyboard mouse...

Budget Upgrade

Budget under Rs. 15000/-

Good onboard grfx, will do home video editing, photoshop, flash of such multimidea apps, will be able to play most games in low settings !!!

AMD 4000 @ Rs. 3000 /- + TAX
ASUS M2N PV VM @ Rs. 3600 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 667 MHz Transend or Kingstone or ZION @ Rs. 2400 /- + TAX
160 GB SATA-II (Segate / SAMSUNG / WD) @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
Cabby + Default PSU (400 / 450 Watts) @ Rs. 1200 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 540 /-

Total Rs. 14040 /-

Not possible to provide one Intel Config in this budget but this is a PC good enough to do most job !!!

Some can modify this as with adding a GRFX Card like 8600 GT GDDR3 256 MB which Rs. 5500/- + TAX and a better PSU...

Gaming Upgrade

Budget under Rs. 20000/- or at Rs. 25000/-

I would say just add XFX 8600 GT 256MB Rs. 5500/- + TAX with a Rs. 850 or Rs. 1400 PSU as 450 or 500 watts ColorSit / PowerSafe / Zebronics with a better well ventilated Cabinet to the above config...

Mid Range Performance Upgrade

Budget 25k to 30k...

This is a performance upgarde for those who wants OverClocing for some performance Boost... and more or less good gaming as todays new games will need heavy grfx so even a card like 8600 will now fall befind....

Intel E6750 @ Rs. 7800 /- + TAX
XFX 650i ultra @ Rs. 4600 /- + TAX
8600 GT GDDR3 256MB @ Rs. 5500 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 800 MHz Transend or Kingstone or ZION @ Rs. 2650 /- + TAX
250 GB SATA-II (Segate / SAMSUNG / WD) @ Rs. 2600 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
Large and Welventilated Cabinet + 500 or more watts ColorSit / PowerSafe / Zebronics @ Rs. 2200 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 1066 /-

Total Rs. 27716 /-

One AMD counter Part would be X2 6000 @ Rs. 7900/- + TAX with ASUS M2A-VM at Rs. 3200/- + TAX

with it, and with better budget one can add some more 2 GB 800 MHz RAM or New 8800 GT 512 MB Rs. 14k + TAX, or get Better 320GB SATA-II 16mb Bufer models or rs. 3200/- + TAX... but for those u will have to consider Rs. 3200/- Cooler Master 600 Watts eXtreme PSU

Performance Upgrade

Better budget over 35k

Now s the budget is not fix now I would just suggest proper products which are tested andfound to be good performer under all Category, either make you own configuration or you may post go through the thread and ask in the thread for your need...

Processor

Its all Intel Now... AMD at-least now 2 years behind Intel on their road map...

So for the system processors needs to be Core 2 Duo and with higher budget certainly the Core 2 Quadro...

Intel® Core™2 Extreme processor

Intel® Core™2 Quad processor

Intel® Core™2 Duo processor

Price of the softwares can be as high as Rs. 65,000/- for the new QX9650 and as low as Rs. 4800/- + TAX for E4500 !!! Availibity is allways an issue, also price is chaning always so if u have question please refer to the last pages of this post to get upto date information and when you have any question feel free to ask in the thread memebrs will try and build a sonfiguaration with idle setup for u and ur needs ...

How ever the processors which you would eye at are E6750 (Rs. 7.2k) E6850 (Rs. 10k) or Q6600 (Rs. 11k)

Motherboard

Say no to Intel Original Boards apart from Intel 975 XBX !!! ASUS / XFX / Gigabyte / MSI are known for their performance boards....

Say no to all 945 chipsets and try and go for boards which comes without onboard GRFX...

Boards to look for,

ASUS board with NVIDIA nForce® 680i SLI™

ASUS board with Intel P35

XFX NVIDIA nForce 680i

Availibity is allways an issue, not all models are available in India, also price is chaning always so if u have question please refer to the last pages of this post to get upto date information and when you have any question feel free to ask in the thread memebrs will try and build a sonfiguaration with idle setup for u and ur needs ...

Price of a certain board can go as high as Rs. 70,000/-

Note as par this update (date 02/11/2007) we still dont have any X38 / G35 board in India !!!!

How ever you may eye at ASUS P5K-C (8.5k), P5N32-E SLi Plus / XFX 680i SLi (11k) P5K-E or higher vaule the, ASUS P5K Deluxe WiFi/AP (15k), etc...

3rd Party processors cooler

under update !! Please check back later...

RAM

Transcend / Kingstone are known for Value but good RAMs, how ever there are Corsair ones like Rs. 14500/- for 2 GB (1x2) 1066 MHz DDR-2...

But the Transcend / Kingstone 800 MHz DDR2 which are Rs. 1350/- each would do your job fine !!!

Graphics Card

There are XFX, ASUS available widelly in India, look for their card as they are known to be good,

Nvidia 7900
Nvidia 7950
nvidia 8600
nvidia 8800

ATi x1900
ATi 2600
Ati 2900

are the cards to look for, they can range from Rs. 5500/- (XFX 8600 GT GDDR3 256 MB) to as high as Rs. 70k when you run under SLI or CrossFire

Note for some reasons in Local Indian market we dont get to see ATi Products a lot

How ever Cards to look for XFX 8600 GT GDDR3 (5.5), the new XFX 8800 GT 512MB Rs. 14000/- + TAX...

Availibity is allways an issue, not all models are available in India, also price is chaning always so if u have question please refer to the last pages of this post to get upto date information and when you have any question feel free to ask in the thread memebrs will try and build a sonfiguaration with idle setup for u and ur needs ...

HDD

Not much to comment !! usually SATA-II 16mb buffer drives would be fine, buy few of them if you need higher storegae, but buy from a company which has a near buy service center !!!

DVD RW

Once again not much to comment !! May be SATA interface if budget permits !!!

Cabinet

Once again only few things i would comment, design ?? chose your one !! type ?? should be large and well ventilated with few cabinet fan slot to pull and push air out and in !!! People will prefer branded ones ... personally I prefer non branded ones as theyyy are chip whcih allows me to buy better PSU

PSU

If you are having a higher config then think of Cooler Master 600 watts is at Rs. 3500/- Kolkata... of the config is little low on power requirement and not some extreme OC, then 500 or more watts ColorSit / PowerSafe / Zebronics would do good... which are usually Rs. 1500/- around !!!

How ever I would always say try for a better PSU if u have the budget for it..

when you have any question feel free to ask in the thread memebrs would try and build a configuaration with idle setup for u and ur needs ...

Display Optional

If you need then consider TFTs now days, refer to Media Center PC format for display options !!!

Budget

Rs. 35k or lower for entertainment movies and music.... and higher Rs. 60k for some heavy gaming + entertainment movies and music...

AMD X2 4800+ @ Rs. 4650 /- + TAX
ASUS M2NPV VM @ Rs. 3750 /- + TAX
2 GB DDR-II 667 MHz @ Rs. 2400 /- + TAX
250 GB SATA-II 16MB Buffer @ Rs. 2600 /- + TAX
DVD RW Lite-on @ Rs. 1300 /- + TAX
Pinnacle TV Tuner Kit for Vista with Remote @ Rs. 2100 /- + TAX
Cabby + ColorSit / Power Safe / Zebronics SMPS ( 450 /500 watts) @ Rs. 2000 /- + TAX

Local Keyboard Mouse @ Rs. 500 /- + TAX
UPS Local Brand @ Rs. 1400 /- + TAX
5.1 Creaitve Inspre @ Rs. 3600 /- + TAX

TAX @ 4% VAT Rs. 1352 /-

Total 35152 /-

The AMD X2 4800 is more than enough for HD 1080p movies, so as the nvidia 6150 grfx which would come with the setup... 6150 will run vg1930wm at 1440x900 resolution without any issue... fully vista compatible... How ever system is not ment for Gaming, if you want gaming, Change the MOBO to MSI K9AGM2 which is Rs. 2450/- and add 8600 GT which is Rs. 5500/- + TAX or if u are pro gamer then may be a 8800 GT Rs 14k + TAX...

the 60k config...

Intel E6550 @ Rs. 7000 /- + TAX
XFX 650i ultra @ Rs. 4600 /- + TAX

Total 61204 /-

This one is ment for heavy gaming with entertainment !!! its allways advisable to buy a separate Sound Card as that will really boost the sound quality !!!

This will play any game at good and high resolution with highest off settings, good movies with Large 22" TFT display...

hi there..........was going thru your blog while searching for the specs of a good afordable psu.....
you've done a really good job there trying out diff configs for diff budgets......
now i am planning to upgrade my pc to a decent gaming rig in a couple of months....and have already decided due to budget constraints i wil be buying entry level components as far processor etc concerned and spend the rest on a mighty gfx card which makes a lot sense (eg my 1.8 ghz p4 + 845 orgnl +512 ddr assembled about 5 yrs ago still churns out playable frame rates in fear/ hl2 ep 2/ cod4 and i beleive its solely because of my 128 mb 6200 agp oc'd to 410/590 mhz)..
however to overclock a 2140 to 3 ghz and pack in a mighty gfx (i'm waiting for either 9600 gt coming out on feb/march or 8800 gs which will better vfm) i'll need at least 500 watt of good psu at min 28 amp on 12 v rails...
however vendors at chadni said they do not have cm 500 w or powersafe gold 500w....
as you're from kolkata i was wondering if you could furnish me with any information about vendors where i can get any of the above psu's .....i dont care about the case much as i can buy any sturdy one and weld/mod it to my hearts content...
any help will be appreciated.
(btw i was initially thinking of amd x2 4xxx + jetway/asus 690g but discarded the scheme due to poor overclockability+less future headroom....)
thanks and well done again ..

One question, do you plan to use pirated software or have not included the budget to include to software also. the overall price of a system should be judged by what operating system we are planning to run and how much is the price of it
