Thinking out-of-the-box, LG Display has developed a 6-inches elliptical LCD and a 1.4-inches circular-shaped LCD that also claim to be the world's largest in their respective categories.
The 6-inches elliptical LCD measures 78.8mm in height and is 131.4mm wide, while the 1.4-inches circular LCD measures 35.5mm in diameter, the company said. Both LCDs are claimed to be capable of displaying up to 262,000 colors, and sport a near 160-degrees viewing angle.Potential applications for the elliptical LCD include a recently-launched digital photo frame as well as future instrument panels for automobiles and home electronics. The circular LCD meanwhile, is expected to make a huge impact on designing of small digital devices like mobile phones, watches, and gaming devices.
Both nouveau LCDs will debut at the 2008 Society for Information Display (SID) Exhibition to be held between May 18 and 23 in Los Angeles, California, USA.
